Investors and traders may hold the same asset but play a different game. The key difference is time.
- Investor: buys an asset they believe will grow over years; uses stocks, funds, physical gold; usually profits only when prices rise.
- Trader: profits from price movement over minutes to weeks; often uses CFDs and leverage; can also profit from falling prices by selling first (short selling).
- Trading needs time, daily attention and calm nerves; investing needs long patience.
Decide before you enter: is this a trade or an investment? Never turn a losing trade into an 'investment'.
