Educational content, not investment advice. Nour explains how markets work. She never tells you what to buy or sell.

The FX market runs around the clock from Monday morning in Asia-Pacific to Friday afternoon in the Americas, but activity is uneven.

  • Approximate GMT hours (adjust to your local time): Tokyo 00:00–09:00, London 08:00–17:00, New York 13:00–22:00; Europe and the US shift one hour earlier in their summer time.
  • The UK handles about 38% of global FX turnover, the US about 19% (BIS 2025).
  • Activity often peaks in the London–New York overlap (≈13:00–17:00 GMT); at GMT+3 that is ≈16:00–20:00.
  • Trading is relatively thin late in the New York afternoon / early Asian morning.
