Crypto fraud is measured in billions. The FBI's IC3 recorded about $11.4 billion in crypto-related losses from 181,565 complaints in 2025, about $7.2 billion of it investment fraud.

  • Relationship scams ('pig butchering'): trust is built for weeks before money is taken. The FTC found nearly half of crypto scam losses since 2021 started on social media.
  • Fake projects and rug pulls: hype, fabricated returns and paid promoters, then the team disappears.
  • Fake platforms show growing balances, then demand fees to withdraw.
  • 100x leverage: a 1% move against you wipes out the whole margin.
  • Red flags: guaranteed returns, unsolicited contact, pressure, unlicensed firms, requests for your seed phrase.
