Educational content, not investment advice. Nour explains how markets work. She never tells you what to buy or sell.

A financial market is any place where buyers and sellers of a financial asset meet: currencies, commodities like gold and oil, company shares, or crypto. Most of it today is an electronic network, not a building.

  • Forex is the largest market: about $7.5 trillion traded per day (BIS, 2022), around the clock five days a week.
  • Main participants: central banks, large banks (market makers), funds and other financial institutions, companies, and individual traders.
  • When a central bank raises rates, its currency often strengthens.
  • You are the smallest player: you can't move the price, but you can understand who does.
