A timeframe is the period each candle represents. MetaTrader 5 offers 21 timeframes, from one minute to one month. Each one shows the same market from a different distance.
- Small timeframes: more opportunities, but more noise and heavier costs relative to small targets.
- Large timeframes: clearer picture, fewer trades, more patience and wider stops.
- The SEC describes day trading as an extremely stressful and expensive full-time job.
- Choose your timeframe by your available time, and analyse top-down: big frame for direction, smaller frame for timing.
